Death Doula/Grief Companion/Minister Debra is a truly compassionate doula who values what is important and sacred to the people and communities she is honored to serve. Debra has been serving life, death, and grief from an early age and has chosen to apply her lived experience in service of others' death & dying as Co-Founder and Doula of Death Transitions. An avid learner, she continually seeks out supportive training to offer clients of Death Transitions. A certified CareDoula and Minister, she has expanded training in World Religions, Trauma-Informed Care, and Non-violent Communication, and is grateful to the people and organizations from which she continually receives learnings. Organizations such as Doorway Into Light, School for Accompanying the Dying, INELDA, Elizabeth Kubler Ross Foundation (US/Mexico), Wilka Roig, Yolo County Hospice, School of Birth, Breath & Death, C.A.R.E., Communication Dojo, Community Healing Circles, among others. Her volunteer service with Joshua's House, a hospice for the unhoused in Sacramento, is representative of her offering to serve the underserved, misunderstood, and underrepresented communities from which she draws her strength and courage. A lover of Earth and a life lived in joyous wonder, she brings practical knowledge, innate wisdom, and honor to serving the dying and their loved ones.
Visionaries, and truly talented and gifted musicians, with hearts of gold, Sound Meditation Presents is opening the doors for all by advocating for the use of sound meditation in the clinical, medical, and hospice settings. SMP is most passionate about supporting those at end of life by offering their highly regarded sound meditation app, and soon, to be present during the death vigil of our clients, their care partners, and beloveds. We are graced with their partnership to support those on their end-of-life journey as we truly believe in the power of music to heal our anxieties and maintain calm through the threshold of life and death. Sound Meditation Presents are the voices we wish to hear in the coming and going of this earthly existence.
Beverly joins Death Transitions roster of Doulas as a student CareDoula, licensed CA Cosmetologist, Reiki 2 practitioner, and fiber craft artisan. She is a co-host of our Death Doula Tea Talks and is most excited to assist others in Advance Care Planning, Survivor Logistics Support, and as a Family Facilitator. She is a trained hospice volunteer with a background in Human Resources and professional Theatre. Her journey to death work was brought around by the death of her husband, Owen, in 2018. As a widow, she traversed the complexities of caring for her husband’s medical crisis and untimely death, as well as the burden of an estate absent any advance care planning or estate planning. Through this experience, she is dedicated to alleviating the burden by educating others on the tools available for one’s dying, in support of their beloveds and the bereaved. She serves the dying and caregivers utilizing her cosmetology license to care for them by offering cranial massage, facials/skin care, and general hair care. She brings her skills as a fiber craft artisan (IG @berlybears) to produce her Memory Bears and other items made from the clothing of a dearly departed, for their beloveds to hold for comfort and remembrance. Beverly wants to help people, especially spouses/partners, to have deep, yet joyful, conversations to create well-defined written wishes and preferences prior to a health crisis or terminal diagnosis by facilitating family discussions. She seeks to empower survivors on how to avoid or limit the burden of making end-of-life care and financial decisions for their loved ones. Beverly draws inspiration for her offering not only from her lived experience and also from the gift of her friend Sherrie’s publicly documented communication about her 2-year terminal illness journey and ability to die her version of a good death using Oregon’s Death with Dignity law. Beverly is currently a full-time Care Partner with her independent-living parents and is a single mom of an awesome teen. Beverly’s strengths include compassionate listening, earthy humor, and attention to detail with paperwork.
